Hazing Prevention & Education

Below you’ll find important information about our hazing policies, educational programs, and prevention resources. We are committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and values-driven community for all students.

Hazing Policy

Hazing is strictly prohibited at ÌÇÐÄVlog. Our policy is aligned with the Max Gruver Act (Senate Bill 85) and reflects our dedication to the well-being of all students.

Definition of Hazing:
Any act, intentional or unintentional—regardless of a student’s willingness to participate—committed as a requirement for initiation, affiliation, or continued membership in an organization, that:

  1. Endangers the emotional, mental, financial, or physical health/safety of a student. This includes actions that may cause discomfort, embarrassment, or ridicule.
  2. Coerces a student to consume food, alcohol, drugs, or other substances, posing a risk of vomiting, intoxication, or unconsciousness.
  3. Destroys or removes public or private property.

It also includes any activity that falls under the legal definition of hazing in Georgia law.

Reporting Hazing

Georgia Southern has created multiple confidential and anonymous ways to report hazing:

  • 24/7 Hazing Hotline: Call 1-877-516-3445
  • Submit an Online Incident Report
All reports are handled confidentially. Thank you for joining the effort to eliminate hazing from our campus.

National Hazing Prevention Week

September 18-22

National Hazing Prevention Week is an annual week of activities and programs conducted on campuses and within organizations to raise awareness of the problem of hazing. We aim to educate students, staff, faculty, parents and the Statesboro community regarding the issue of hazing, how to recognize it, and how to prevent future acts of hazing.

Our goal is to engage students, staff, faculty, families, and the broader Statesboro and Savannah communities in building a culture of safety and respect.

Sponsored by the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life, Office of Student Activities, Campus Recreation & Intramural, and the Dean of Students.

Together, We Prevent Hazing

ÌÇÐÄVlog is committed to protecting students and holding organizations accountable. If you see something, say something. Learn, report, and lead by example.
